Institute Description

The brand new, highly-anticipated Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System will be presented by its creators, Irene C. Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell, at this engaging, in-depth two-day institute. Internationally respected authorities on guided reading, comprehension, and reading assessment, Fountas and Pinnell showcase their important new product in a new institute that will:

  • show participants how to maximize the effective and efficient use of the system
  • examine the thinking behind the creation of the Benchmark Assessment System
  • give participants all the tools they need to begin using this powerful system right away.

The Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System is the best and most reliable way to determine a student's reading level using the Fountas and Pinnell A–Z text gradient, to plan your teaching, and to document reading progress across the school year. These assessment tools will enable teachers to closely observe and analyze students' reading behavior and to use this information to provide differentiated reading instruction for small groups of students from kindergarten through the middle grades.

Institute participants will learn how to administer, code, and score a reading behavior assessment, as well as to analyze a child's reading performance using the Benchmark Assessment System. Fountas and Pinnell will then show how to use the information to determine specific instructional goals in interactive read-aloud, guided reading, and independent reading.

Participants must bring the following components from their kit in order to participate:

  • THEIR CALCULATOR
  • THEIR CONTINUUM
  • THEIR TEACHER'S GUIDE

If you do not own a kit, you may purchase one here on our website:
