Participants in this workshop will be introduced to The Continuum of Literacy Learning, K–8: A Guide to Teaching, and will explore ways to use it as a basis for instructional decision making. The presenters will describe the ways the continuum can be used across instructional contexts for teaching reading: interactive read-aloud, shared and performed reading, guided reading, reading workshop minilessons, and writing about reading. Participants will look at examples from several contexts and engage in activities that will help them to think about a long continuum of literacy learning and plan for instruction in classrooms. They will also learn to use The Fountas and Pinnell Prompting Guide 1: Teaching for Strategies in Reading and Writing, an easy-to-use tool that summarizes concise and effective language that will help students engage in effective reading behaviors.

*Participants at this workshop will be required to bring one of the following: The Continuum of Literacy Learning, K–8, The Fountas & Pinnell Prompting Guide 1, or Teaching for Comprehending and Fluency.
